Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd President of the United States of America, named his mansion "Monticello" in Virginia, USA when he was constructing it in 1770. It was here where he displayed his prized collection of unique furniture and other accessories which he had bought from Europe during his many escapades. He had even imported a specially designed Portico to adorn his main entrance area, so that it would act as a shelter against rain when his guests alighted from their carriages. He was a creative inventor during his days of presidency and well-known for his intricate modern innovations in furnishings due to his keen sense of style and attention to details.

Monticello, in Singapore, is also just as historic in the sense that it is one of the pioneers in importing interior accessories and furniture. Started in 1970, it had also housed European artifacts and was made famous among the local community and neighboring Asean countries for its fine collection. The style was initially classical as period and baroque designs were popular trends at that time. Over the years, Monticello had evolved into furniture distribution when two major leaders in the designer furniture industry approached them and offered exclusivity to market their products in the ASEAN region.

Currently, Monticello also imports unique lightings and trendy office furniture.
